With over 12 million plastic bags disposed of in the Cayman Islands in just a year, the Corporate Green Team Network decided that something needs to change; the result is the BECOME Green campaign. With the eco-friendly reusable bags from Green Benefits, the Cayman Islands gave away grocery bags made of 50% recycled plastic in Foster Food Fair, Kirk Supermarket and Hurley’s stores.

The detrimental effects of plastic bags in the Cayman Islands have been overwhelmingly obvious. The delicate marine wild life is subject to plastic pollution from the whales to the plankton. Unlike green reusable bags, the plastic will never fully compost just become small pieces so that the fish that people eat from this area have ingested the plastic and toxins. Buying one eco-friendly reusable bag can remove the need for over 22,000 plastic bags.

The Cayman Islands BECOME campaign is just one example of the many uses of the green reusable bags from Green Benefits. Green reusable bag fundraising programs are one of the most popular offered, in addition to reusable custom water bottles. The eco-friendly reusable bags are lightweight, easy and convenient to use and washable.

“Our eco-friendly reusable bags are some of our most popular products and people love that they can be used as a teaching opportunity,” said John Hamlin, founder of Green Benefits.

Green reusable bags have not only been a success in the Cayman Islands but with many organizations around the World including The City of Sea-Tac in Washington State, Kellog School of Management in Illinois, Eaton House School in London, England and many other schools and businesses. A green reusable bag will not only support sustainability but promote the organization, school or campaign featured. Green reusable bags are available in all different styles, sizes and colors to fit any organizations’ needs.  The eco-friendly reusable bags used by BECOME and the Cayman Islands were made of 50% recycled plastic bottles and were printed using soy-based inks.

The use of eco-friendly bags are the smart solution for a school to engage children in their environment and the green movement; in addition, children who learn to be environmentally conscious young, through reusable bag fundraisers and other eco-friendly projects, will be encouraged to lead a green lifestyle in the future. Like the Cayman Islands, many businesses as well are choosing to use green reusable bags to make their customers more aware of their environmental impact and small changes they can make to reduce their carbon footprint.

Communities should take notice of the BECOME campaign and the eco-friendly reusable bags in the Cayman Islands and follow their example. Direct communication to the community about sustainability, and the harmful effects of plastic waste, is the best way to incite change.
